Meet the Farmer
Farming isn’t just what I do—it’s who I am. My passion for agriculture is more than a career; it’s a lifelong love affair rooted in the lessons and memories shared with my grandparents, parents, aunts, and uncles. They taught me the value of nurturing life, instilling a deep compassion for both animals and plants that continues to guide me every day.
Some of my most cherished memories are summers spent on the family farms. I learned from two incredible grandmothers—one whose flower gardens bloomed with vibrant beauty, and another who managed a dairy farm while growing a bounty of fresh vegetables. Their dedication to the land and their way of life profoundly shaped me, planting the seeds of a connection to agriculture that has only grown stronger with time.
My mother also had a special gift for tending to gardens. Her flowers and plants were always meticulously cared for, with the kind of attention to detail you’d expect from a page in Better Homes and Gardens. She taught me that gardening is an art form—a way to bring beauty and joy into the world, and I carry that passion with me today.
Spending summers on my aunt and uncle's farm also left a lasting impression. I helped with the daily chores, milked the cows, and tended to the calves. Those hands-on experiences taught me the true rhythm of farm life—the early mornings, the care for the animals, and the hard work that goes into making a farm thrive. It was there that I learned what it means to be fully connected to the land and animals.
Though I began my professional journey in veterinary medicine and human-animal education, helping others understand the bond between people and animals, I always felt the pull of the land. That pull led me back to agriculture—a place where my heart feels most at home. Today, I’m honored to work at a fourth-generation local feed mill, supporting farmers, homesteaders, and hobbyists. This work has reignited the spark that farming has always held in my life.
As family farms disappear, I feel an urgent responsibility to preserve their legacy. That’s why I founded Nisse Farms—to create a space where sustainable growing, education, and community can thrive. My dream is to inspire others to see the beauty and importance of agriculture, just as my family once inspired me. Together, we can protect this way of life for generations to come.
“Farming is not just a profession; it's a way of life. It's about hard work, resilience, and a deep connection to the earth. In every seed planted and every harvest gathered, we find hope for the future.”
